Stone carpet paving · Spain

A natural texture. A more considered way to live outside.

Bring terraces, poolside spaces and garden paths together with the quiet texture of natural stone. Stone carpet combines selected aggregate with a resin binder to create a cohesive, tactile surface, shaped around the way you use your home.

Stone carpet

Natural stone, reimagined as one surface.

Also known as resin-bound aggregate paving, stone carpet combines graded natural stone with a suitable binder. The selected stone, grain size and laying system determine its texture and appearance. The aggregate is bound in place rather than left loose; necessary movement and construction joints are still designed into the work.

A calmer, more connected exterior

A continuous appearance can unite an awkward terrace, a curved path and a poolside seating area, without a repeated grid of slab joints dominating the design.

Stone that stays part of the surface

Compared with loose gravel, a properly installed bound aggregate finish reduces migrating stones and gives everyday walking, wheeling luggage and moving outdoor furniture a more stable setting.

Colour with a natural depth

Selected marble, quartz or other suitable stone blends create mineral tones with subtle variation. Compare real samples to choose the grain, texture and colour that complement your façade.

Poolside living

Poolside living, with the whole setting in mind.

Think beyond the pool edge: the sun lounger, the outdoor shower, the route to the kitchen and evenings beside the water. A softly toned stone carpet can give those spaces a shared visual language.

For the pool surround—sometimes described as a pool beach—we coordinate curves, coping, steps, planting edges and drainage with the chosen surface. An exterior specification must address wet and barefoot use, cleaning and the actual pool environment. The sample helps you assess the feel; the system documentation establishes its suitability.

  • A palette chosen alongside the pool lining, façade and outdoor furniture.
  • Transitions and edging that make different outdoor areas feel intentional.
  • A specified finish assessed for wet use and your pool environment.

Beach entries and submerged finishes

A dry pool surround is different from a sloping beach entry or a submerged pool finish. Immersed areas need a specifically approved system and a separate waterproofing design; standard outdoor stone carpet is not assumed suitable.

Stone carpet

An outdoor room, rather than another paved area.

Under a pergola or beside doors opening to the garden, a mineral surface can give seating and dining a more relaxed architectural backdrop. We consider the route through the terrace, furniture movement, shade and water run-off alongside the finish. The result should feel as natural on a quiet weekday as it does when the house is full of guests.

Why choose stone carpet over what you have?

Compared with loose gravel

A bound aggregate surface can reduce loose stones being carried indoors and provide a more stable route for daily use. It needs an engineered base and drainage design; it is not a decorative layer laid over any gravel.

Compared with exterior tiles

Its continuous appearance and ability to follow curves offer a different design language. Porcelain may suit a more regular slab pattern or a different cleaning preference. Texture, support, joints and repair appearance guide the choice.

Compared with plain concrete

Natural aggregate brings visible mineral character and colour variation. It can soften the appearance of a broad entrance or courtyard, but it does not correct a cracked, moving or poorly drained base simply by covering it.

Make the finish part of the house.

The colour

Sand, ivory, warm greige, subtle grey or a considered blend. Review samples against walls, frames, pool finishes and planting, in shade and direct sun where possible.

The texture

Grain size and system affect touch, walking comfort, cleaning and appearance. We compare physical samples and the intended use, including barefoot areas and routes used by children or pets.

The edges

Curves, borders, drains, steps and access covers are resolved as part of the design. A continuous look does not remove the need for movement joints, appropriate falls or safe thresholds.

From the existing surface to a finished exterior.

  1. Review the area, support, cracks, levels, access and intended traffic.
  2. Agree samples, binder specification, drainage approach, edges and full installed scope.
  3. Prepare the base, form the details and install in suitable weather conditions.
  4. Review the finish and agreed checks; confirm curing, return to use and care instructions.

Know how it will fit your routine.

Cleaning, leaf removal, drainage upkeep and any specialist treatments should follow the selected system’s instructions. We discuss likely staining from barbecues, irrigation or pool use, and how a local repair might appear. The proposal defines preparation, finish, exclusions and handover—not just a price for the top layer.

A useful first conversation.

Send the area, photographs of the current paving and any plans. Tell us whether it is a terrace, pool surround, path or driveway, what bothers you today and the finish you prefer. We can then identify the appropriate assessment and sample shortlist.

Before your project begins

What is stone carpet?

Stone carpet is a decorative surface made from graded natural aggregate bound with a suitable resin. For exterior work, the aggregate, binder, depth, support and drainage are specified together. It has a continuous appearance, with construction and movement joints where required.

Is stone carpet suitable around a swimming pool?

It can be, when the selected complete system is suitable for the actual pool surround. We assess relevant wet and barefoot performance, texture, pool exposure, drainage, edging and cleaning. A sloping beach entry or submerged area requires a specifically approved system and separate waterproofing design.

Is stone carpet permeable?

Some resin-bound build-ups can be permeable. The binder, aggregate structure, base, ground conditions and water discharge all matter. A porous top layer over an impermeable base does not by itself make the complete installation permeable.

Can it cover my existing tiles or concrete?

Sometimes, after checking adhesion, stability, cracks, movement joints, moisture, falls and available height. Unsound tiles, moving concrete or failed waterproofing need addressing first. The assessment determines whether an overlay or removal and rebuilding is appropriate.

Can it be used on a driveway?

Yes, with a system and supporting construction specified for vehicle loads, turning, gradients and the actual traffic. A pedestrian terrace specification is not automatically suitable for a driveway.

Is it slippery or hot underfoot?

Neither wet grip nor temperature can be inferred from a photograph or the name stone carpet. We review the selected finish’s relevant performance and samples in the actual setting. Colour, aggregate, binder, exposure and maintenance all influence the result.

How much does stone carpet cost and how long does it take?

Area, access, existing surface, removal, preparation, waterproofing where needed, drainage, borders and the selected finish affect installed cost and programme. Weather and curing also matter. We define these after assessment, including when the surface may be walked or driven on.
